2026 Interior Design Trends: Suzanne’s Take on What Actually Lasts

Everyone’s talking about interior design trends for 2026
but as a designer, I think we’re asking the wrong question.

Instead of “What’s in?” or “What’s out?”
I’m always asking: How do you want to live in your home —and how do you want it to feel?

So here’s my take.

I’m Suzanne from Arrange, and I’ve been designing interiors for a long time now. I care a lot less about chasing trends and a lot more about creating spaces that feel good year after year—especially here in Bend, where homes work hard, seasons are real, and life spills beautifully indoors and out.

What’s Really Shaping Interior Design in 2026

What’s shaping design right now isn’t a specific color or sofa leg—it’s how people are living.

I’m seeing it every day with clients:

  • Homes doing double (and triple) duty

  • Second homes that still need to feel personal

  • A deep craving for calm after years of burnout

  • A real desire to move away from disposable, fast design

What’s In (Soft but Honest)

  • Multi-use spaces that flex with real life

  • Warmth, grounding textures, and emotional comfort

  • Design choices that age gracefully

  • Homes that feel lived in, not staged

What’s Out (Gently Letting Go)

  • Hyper-trendy finishes done just to be “current”

  • Gray-on-gray-on-gray everything

  • Rooms that photograph well but don’t live well

  • Spaces that feel untouchable or too precious

Good design in 2026 isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection.

Kitchen Design Trends for 2026: Warmth Meets Function

Kitchens are still the heart of the home—but in 2026, they’re softer, warmer, and more intentional.

What I’m seeing (and loving):

  • Natural wood tones coming back in a big way

  • Fewer upper cabinets, more thoughtful storage

  • Layered lighting that feels ambient, not clinical

  • Spaces designed for cooking and lingering

Here in Bend, kitchens often open to outdoor spaces or mountain views, so the goal is flow—not flash. I’m designing kitchens that feel welcoming at 7am coffee and equally good for casual dinners with friends.

Living Room Trends for 2026: Comfort Is the New Luxury

Living rooms are moving away from “don’t sit there” energy.

In 2026, I’m prioritizing:

  • Deep, comfortable seating

  • Performance fabrics that can handle dogs, kids, and real life

  • Mixes of old and new for soul and story

  • Layouts that encourage conversation, not just TV viewing

A beautiful living room should invite you in—and let you put your feet up.

Bedroom Trends for 2026: Calm, Cocooning, Restful

Bedrooms are becoming true retreats again.

Think:

  • Fewer distractions

  • Softer lighting

  • Upholstered headboards

  • Layered neutrals with texture

I’m designing bedrooms that feel like an exhale at the end of the day. Nothing flashy—just deeply comfortable, personal, and quiet.

Color Trends for 2026: Pick a Personality, Not a Paint Moment

2026 Interior Color Trends | Bend Oregon

We could start with the Pantone Color of the Year…
which honestly feels a bit like white toast.

Instead, I love helping clients choose colors with personality—tones that feel like them.

(For trend watchers, Homes & Gardens and Ideal Home are great references:

  • Farrow & Ball Shades for 2026)

Here are my fun alternatives I covered in an earlier post!

Silhouette – Benjamin Moore

For the Quietly Confident
A deep charcoal that lets everything else shine while holding the room together.
Best for: libraries, dining rooms, cocooning bedrooms.

Universal Khaki – Sherwin-Williams

For the Trusted Friend
Warm, grounded, endlessly reliable.
Best for: living rooms, hallways, open plans.

Scallop – Farrow & Ball

For the Soft Romantic (with good taste)
A gentle pink with warm undertones—subtle and flattering.
Best for: bedrooms, bathrooms, dressing rooms.

Color in 2026 is less about statements and more about self-recognition.

Design here always reflects lifestyle.

In Bend, I’m designing for:

  • Mudrooms that actually work

  • Durable materials that handle snow, sun, and dogs

  • Indoor-outdoor flow

  • Spaces that feel cozy in winter and light in summer

Our homes don’t need to impress—they need to support how we live.

A Gentle Invitation

If you’re thinking about updating your home in 2026, I’d love for you to think less about trends—and more about how you want to feel at home.

That’s always where good design starts.

With decades of experience, Suzanne believes great design is personal, practical, and deeply connected to how people live—especially in Central Oregon. When she’s not designing spaces, she’s likely hunting for vintage pieces, rearranging furniture just to see if it works better (it usually does), visiting local galleries, or taking long walks for fresh perspective. She’s known for her thoughtful eye, love of texture and patina, and her belief that the best homes feel collected, not decorated.
