My Top 5 Design Trends for 2024

As 2023 comes to a close it’s time to look forward to what is in store for 2024. I love this time of year which points to a new start and fresh ideas! I look forward to attending market at the end of the month, being inspired with all that is new. Often I find my best inspiration comes from the fresh insight of other design professionals, forecasters and manufacturers.

I've delved into the depths of the upcoming design landscape, and here are my top 5 favorite trends for 2024.

1. Bold, Earthy Colors Continue

Last year we saw the beginning of a

welcome shift from the all-neutral palette of past years, with statement colors. This is predicted to expand beyond simple accents. Monochrome color schemes of dark, deep and juicy hues are in and being created with a dramatic flair through the use of lots of layers and textures.

Pantone's 2024 palette unveiled a radiant peach, aptly named "Peach Fuzz." This sun-kissed hue, radiating warmth and elegance, perfectly mirrors our yearning for connection. Picture walls bathed in its glow, sofas draped in its embrace, throws, and cushions whispering its cozy charm. Peach Fuzz isn't just a color; it's an interior decor invitation to bask in togetherness. Get ready to welcome this blushing beauty to center stage in your design story this year.

2. Curves & Sculptural Shapes Expand

In 2023 we began to see curves make it’s debut in furniture. Curves and organic shapes add movement and an element of calm softness in contrast to the sharp

edges we have been seeing in recent years. In 2024 this will expand beyond furniture into more arched structural accents in doorways, ceilings and so on. So exciting!

3. Metallic Buzz

2024, a striking trend is taking center stage and making a resounding statement—metallics are back, and they're here to infuse spaces with a touch of glamor and sophistication. This revival sees the triumphant return of timeless materials such as chrome, brass, and copper, emerging as the go-to accents for furniture, lighting fixtures, and even wall finishes, ushering in an era of opulence and style.

The beauty of the metallic trend in 2024 lies in its versatility. Whether you prefer a subtle hint of shimmer or bold, statement-making pieces, this trend accommodates a spectrum of preferences. For those inclined towards understated luxury, a hint of metallic in accent pieces or furniture detailing can effortlessly elevate the overall aesthetic. On the other hand, bold enthusiasts can embrace larger-than-life metallic elements, turning them into focal points that redefine the entire space.

4. Romantic Florals

I envision a captivating return to Romanticism, and this time, botanicals take center stage. The resurgence is not a mere replication of the past but a contemporary celebration of nature's lush beauty, where large florals and abstract botanicals breathe life into every corner of our living spaces. It’ll be incorporated in so many ways! Picture this: stepping into a room adorned with oversized florals, as the air fills with the intoxicating aroma of an imaginary garden.

Rugs, once overlooked, now become canvases for vibrant blooms, infusing warmth and character underfoot. One of my clients once described her bold, new floral rug as “A piece of art on her floor.”

Accent pieces, those small yet impactful details, are transformed into exquisite expressions of Romanticism. Imagine plush pillows adorned with abstract floral patterns, inviting you to sink into their embrace. Chairs become sculptural art pieces with botanical-inspired upholstery, turning functional furniture into conversation starters. And then there's wallpaper, a canvas for storytelling. Walls adorned with botanical prints become immersive tapestries, enveloping the room in a romantic embrace. The ceiling, often an overlooked canvas, is now a masterpiece in itself, painted with delicate vines and blossoms that make us feel like we're lying in a meadow, gazing up at the sky.

5. Artisanal Touches

This trend signals a departure from mass-produced, uniform designs toward a more personalized and soulful aesthetic. The upcoming wave in the interior design industry is set to invest heavily in unique, handcrafted pieces that not only serve as functional elements but also tell a story and reflect the essence of individuality.

Incorporating unique vintage pieces into interior design is a timeless and integral aspect of my decorating style. The blend of old and new elements adds character, depth, and a sense of history to a space. At the same time it creates a unique and curated aesthetic that reflects both personal taste and a respect for design traditions.

To embrace this movement, consider immersing yourself in the world of local artisans and makers. These skilled craftsmen breathe life into furniture, artwork, and home decor, infusing each vintage piece with a distinctive charm that transcends the ordinary.

Imagine, for a moment, a vintage hand-carved wooden dining table as the beating heart of your home, a blown-glass pendant lamp casting warm light, or a ceramic vase showcasing the artist's unique technique. They’re no longer just pieces of furniture, but a testament to the artisan's craftsmanship, a tactile connection to the materials, and a daily reminder of the beauty found in imperfections and individuality.

Conclusion

From bold peaches to floral havens, 2024 promises show-stopping interiors.
