How to Choose the Perfect Rug this Fall

Purpose is something that comes to mind whenever we're in the business of making choices and when it comes to choosing a rug, that is usually no different.

When choosing a rug, I’d suggest you think first about its purpose!

Is it to define a room, create a statement? Art piece for the floor? Looking for color? A bold pattern?

Or do you want texture & warmth. Are you looking for a neutral, interesting texture? Something soft?

Already you may start to picture what you have in mind.

We can all admit rugs are not just floor coverings. They serve a multifaceted purpose in our homes that ushers in our experiences, life and beauty.

Now, there are different purposes a rug could serve that we’ll be exploring today, to help you decide what you’re looking for and how we can get you there.

But before we get into that here is a quick fabric overview of the different kinds of rugs and their functions;

Different rug fabrics you can choose from, their differences, and functions.

Okay let’s begin!

Rugs for defining spaces.

Oftentimes, we go into a room and can immediately detect if it is a baby's room or a personal boudoir.

Why is it though?

This is because a rug can give explicit meaning about who's occupying the room.

Using a rug strategically can help transform your spaces functionality.

Rugs for aesthetics.

We all have a creative vision when we’re decorating our space. Maybe you want something bold that commands artistic attention. Or you have a warm neutral in mind -perfect for relaxing your eyes and nerves after a long day.

Usually rugs come in a wide variety of colors, patterns, and textures allowing you to choose one that compliments your style and enhances the overall look of your home.

That way your rooms can have that subtle sense of gorgeous flavor you’re looking for..

Rugs for style

Our interests are also an important part of choosing a rug. When it comes to aesthetics we’re often looking outwardly, how about inside? Are you more sophisticated? Or do you tend to be a little eclectic and free?

The right interior design place will carry all sorts of patterns, colors and rug designs to help you tie this all together.

A particular rug favorite of mine as an interior design expert is Fibreworks! It’s a quality design that focuses on neutrals and textures (hyperlink product).

The same way we're wired to always want to be around our favorite people, is the same way we always want to stay around our favorite things just like the colors or patterns of our rugs.

Rugs for seasons

In a particular season or weather, rugs help provide warmth and comfort when added to a room.

In winter, you can opt for a thick, warm rug to keep your feet cozy.

Take for example, the Jaipur Living Winter 2023 Collection. These artisan rugs are made by skilled craftspeople using time-honored techniques passed down from generation to generation.

It’s a yummy mix of traditional and contemporary patterns, that’s sure to keep one warm through the ember months!!

In the summer, you can choose a lighter, breathable rug to help create a cooler atmosphere.

Rugs for preservation and protection.

Rugs often serve the purpose of protecting us from scratches, spills, and stains (even from the cutest of culprits).

That can essentially increase the wear and tear of the room and also help increase the lifespan of your floor.

Functional rugs.

No two rugs are the same, and neither is your need!

Maybe there’s a spot in your home that could use some color, or you want to tie in your tastefully selected furniture pieces with that one rug.

The function and kind of rug you choose to accomplish this will be different. Sometimes you need a runner, other times you need a quality area rug instead.

That is for you to carefully evaluate and decide your unique needs.

Conclusively, choosing a rug has a lot to do with our style, preferences, and purposes so do not hesitate to do critical research on what you want before choosing a rug.
